SERVICE NOT INCLUDED is is a performance collective founded in 2017 by Marie Jaksch and Charlotte Oeken. We create participatory works that explore questions of public participation, collective narratives and other social and political issues in an immersive way. In our works we seek to use performative strategies of (public) spaces such as restaurants or clubs and examine them for their socio-political aspects and mechanisms of action. By appropriating these spaces, we want to create self-contained and temporary places in which the spectators can, should, and must behave themselves, discuss, and help shape the events. In this way, a unique narration is created and an event of non-reproducibility and singularity is created. We see ourselves as mediators who place themselves at the service of the respective theme, but do not claim sovereignty over a particular narrative. Rather, we understand narratives as something fluid and want to provide a multitude of different voices with audibility and visibility. Through subconscious participation, utopias are created that constitute alternative and unfamiliar realities, albeit always for a limited time. Alongside the performance, a publication is always produced as an artistic work of equal value, which can be located between essayistic continuation of the scenic thoughts and informative program booklet, between theoretical discourse and graphic-visual work, and which contextualizes the ephemeral and fluid events in the space both during and after the performance. The additional information gathered in these artistic books helps the audience to maneuver through the evening without losing touch with the negotiated theme, gaining background knowledge and additional food for thought.
